Our math department welcomes a new face this year—Alison Klugherz, whose passion for teaching and bright smile are already lighting up the classroom.
“I’ve loved teaching since I was about twelve,” Alison shared warmly. Inspired by her mother, who was also a teacher, she knew early on that education would be her calling. “I’ve always loved that moment of excitement when a student gets something.”
One of Alison’s biggest inspirations is the film Stand and Deliver—about an AP Calculus teacher who helps disadvantaged students succeed. “It really captures what I love about teaching,” she said. Her own math teacher had a similar impact on her: “When my teacher explained a concept and I finally understood it, it felt amazing. That’s the feeling I want my students to have.”
Before joining George School, Alison taught in a public school and involved in tutoring privately. From her first visit to campus, she knew that GS was different. “When I came and met the people at GS, I was beyond thrilled,” she said. “The environment is so positive. The students are kind, and I can actually talk to them.”
In the classroom, Alison’s big smile always radiates warmth that makes her class unique. “I want my students to feel excitement about learning,” she said. For Alison, teaching is about more than academics. “It’s more important to have good character than anything else,” she stressed, “I want my students to learn how to work well with others and be kind.”
Outside of teaching, Alison leads a vibrant and well-rounded life. She’s a tennis player, a former competitive swimmer, a musician who plays the flute and piccolo, a singer in the choir, and a devoted Disney fan. She also takes pride in her three college-aged daughters, who share her love for sports and music.
Alison has an impressive academic background, having studied at Cornell University, Harvard University, and University of Pennsylvania. With her enthusiasm, warmth, and dedication, Alison is sure to make a lasting mark on our GS community.
