C.O.W.W, not the kind that graze on grass, but instead the dorms: C.O.W.W.– Campbell, Orton, West Main/Westwood.
For this year, C.O.W.W weekend brought more activities and fun to GS. The weekend kicked off with the Friday night S’moreoke on Orton porch. The students gathered around the fire pit to roast their s’more sandwiches while singing their favorite songs. “The Friday night activity really is a fantastic way to relax after an overwhelming week.” shared Fiona ‘26, “It was really cold that night, but the firepit really warmed me up.”
Activities on the next day started with a pool party in the afternoon and were shortly followed by popsicles, circus shows and dodgeball in the evening. The school invited the 505 Circus ,who performed stunning tricks which engaged the audience. There was a competition between the 4 dorms, West Main came first while Orton closely followed as second place. “My favorite part of the circus is the last part, where they stacked on top of each other.” shared Shawn ‘26. “It was fun, dodgeball is my favorite part. Both the dodgeball and the circus happened in the FAC.” He added. On the other end of the campus, in Campbell dormitory, there were popsicles being given out. “Having free ice cream definitely is my favorite part,” added Winni ‘27.
We went around and asked freshmen and new sophomores about their first impressions of C.O.W.W. “When I first heard about it, I didn’t know what C.O.W.W stands for.” shared Shawn ‘26 “ But when I participated in it, I thought it’s really fun.” “I think it’s a really fun weekend, it’s hard to all gather together especially because we’re all very busy, but C.O.W.W weekend really helps us get together as a community.” added Winni ‘27. C.O.W.W weekend connected the dorms and celebrated the friendly lowerclassmen dorm community.
However, there are still some disappointments about the activities this weekend. Some things that happened at the previous C.O.W.W. Weekends were not included this year like, Capture the Cow. Returning students said this was very frustrating. The rain also drove a lot of the activities indoors, such as the popsicle party,Camp C.O.W.W, and some events such as the BBQ dinner/ lawn games needed to be cancelled. “I really want many group activities, especially for more people.” quoted Winni ‘27.
This weekend was an opportunity for lowerclassmen boarders and of our community to come together and enjoy a rainy, yet still lively weekend.
