As we ease back into the new school year and begin to adjust to the new schedule, clubs are beginning to meet this week. Here is a look at some of the new clubs that are beginning this week, and a couple of words from their leaders regarding their clubs and why people should join!

History Club
“In our club we talk about fun history, mainly focusing on European history. In our meetings we will write and discuss this interesting history. If you like history this is definitely going to be the place for you!”

GS TV Club
“We noticed that there wasn’t really a collaborative space for people who do film, people who act, and people who write. Basically, we wanted to create the space for them to collaborate, that is our main focus. In terms of what we want to create, we want to do SNL style skits, mostly comedic but we are also open to do more dramatic ones too. We also talked to Curious George about collaborating, doing weekend updates, and a mini GS news moment.”

Table Tennis Club
“Last year, a table tennis club existed, but it met very rarely. It was really great because they ran tournaments, but I found a lot of kids wanting to play table tennis without a place to kind of know when too. So, I thought it would be great to create a generalized time for people to get to play table tennis together.”

Acapella Club
“Acapella club is a club where people are going to get together to sing basically any type of music. We are very democratic, so club members can suggest any songs. We are going to have a lot of fun, if you have ever seen the movie Pitch Perfect we are going to watch that at our first meeting so you should totally come out for that, it is going to be very fun!”

UNICEF Club
“We really do love UNICEF, our club. We want to advocate for the protection, inclusion, and development of children rights. Something we are doing this year is we are hosting a weekend this year, Halloween weekend, and we want to host fun events such as costume parties. But the main part of UNICEF is that we hope we can really include topics such as mental health and ways to advocate for basic human rights. We will also be holding fun fundraisers this year, such as a cinnamon bun fundraiser and a bath and body works fundraiser. We just want everyone to become more involved and to understand what it means for some of these children around the world. In the end our main goal is really to help them.”

Plastic Model Club
“We are the plastic model club, basically we turn everything you like into scale models on a tabletop. We build kits, we do scribing, it’s a chance for you to fully use your imagination and put them into real physical objects you can show on your table top. And it is not that difficult as it may sound because we will be having tutorials for the first few weeks, we will walk you through everything you need to know. It is a very fascinating hobby!”

Percussion Club
“People will be able to play many different types of percussion instruments in this club and we will also get the chance to watch many percussion videos as well. It is a place for people who love music to enjoy themselves and to express themselves through percussion!”

ComEngineering Club
“Our club is called ComEngineering and it means engineering for our community. We use engineering to solve problems in our community. We don’t talk about really profound theories, but instead we do lab activities that help people to get a better understanding of engineering. Please come to our club!”

Research Club
“Our club is about research, we are introducing scientific research to the George School community. We will work to find the problems in the George School environment, the problems are subtle, but they exist. We want to solve those problems, step by step help our local community, and serve the community as a whole.”

Lifting Club
“Our club is about fostering an amazing gym community that is not intimidating and that is open to all different types of levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced. We are going to be setting up workouts every week that are open to everybody!”

Outdoor Games Club
“People should join outdoor games club because it is a perfect time to be with your friends, meet new people, and play games outside. A lot of us were familiar with frisbee club and spikeball club, but this is a female run expansion of those two clubs. We will have cornhole, ladder toss, newcomb, badminton, really any game you can think of. It is a perfect time to be with friends and get outside!”

Future Business Leaders of America Club
“People should join FBLA because we think that investing and knowing how to start a business is very important. We are going to have local businesses come in and teach us how they started their business as well as do a lot of fundraisers, go help at a homeless shelter, and do the March of Dimes this coming October.”

Science Olympiad Club
“Science Olympiad is a club where students who love science get together and prepare for events at science olympiad, we prepare for competitions that are usually on college campuses, and they are very fun. The events range from dynamic planet which is geography and biology, to code code busters which is like cryptology. They are interesting, you should join!”
